SARAH JESSICA PARKERAND MATTHEW BRODERICK SHOULD HAVE STAYED IN THE CITY WITH THEIR NYC TOWNHOUSE

The Greenwich Village, New York City Apartment

This is an elegantly refurbished home built in 1846 and is 6800 square feet of stylish, sophisticated elegance. It is a home anyone would be proud to own while still being comfortable to live in. At the last check it was on the market for a mere $22 million. Will it now become the home of another celebrity or a business man seeking a safe haven away from the hustle and bustle of New York City life? Only time will tell.

Elegant Interiors

A small welcoming area with fireplace is the first impression of the home’s interior with its high ceilings, cuddly large white rug and beautiful wooden floors. The couches are a deep chocolate brown with these tones being picked up by the bronze ornaments on the original mantel over the fireplace. These gorgeous wooden floors carry on into the dining area which contains a natural wood dining table as a focal point and complemented by sophisticated designer chairs. Again the earthy feel is repeated with copper wall hangings and other ornamentation being completed with ceiling high mahogany window frames leading onto a quaint Juliette balcony.

The kitchen is possibly the most modern room in the home and is situated on the ground floor with direct access to the garden. The walnut and steel finishing are complemented by an ultra-modern fireplace with a breakfast room leading off the kitchen and having its own view over the split level garden.  Here the breakfast table is round, white and matched with modern chairs situated on a matt white floor, surrounded by white walls, rustic wooden shelving and interesting little ornaments.  This entire area is flooded with natural light throughout the year and a good place to wake up in the morning.

Going Up and Up and Up

Many fireplaces form focal points in this home and the guest bedroom is no exception. The large guest bedroom is sumptuously furnished in navy blue and white with a private well lit reading area. This room has several large windows that also allow loads of natural light into the room that is ideal for bookworms. A spacious marbled bathroom completes this picture. Moving on up, a smaller third floor room also has its own fireplace and could just as easily be used as a children’s bedroom or a study cum library or play room.

The master bedroom claims the entire fourth floor having its own balcony overlooking the attractively manicured gardens. It has its own walk in dressing rooms together with a large on suite bathroom containing a substantial round bath and fireplace for those cold New York winters. The fifth floor is set aside as a leisure area with extensive book shelves, home entertainment system, half lime bath and office. Natural wooden flooring, an elegant staircase, skylights and fireplaces characterize this antique delight that has proven well worth preservation over time.
