Autumn is a time to transform your living room

Autumn is a time to transform your living room

Autumn is the time of year when our living rooms start to be transformed from being not-often-seen pit stops between hectic summer outings into cosy, warm nests where we can hide for long periods from the gloomily, darkening evenings and onset of chilly winter temperatures.

Our living rooms - often taken for granted for most of the year - simply become sources of comfort in their own right: Wrapped-up refuges from the coming inclement weather and cosy, lamp lit lairs where we can gather with our loved ones, friends and family to enthusiastically debate what to watch on the television.

Creating the right lighting for your bedroom

Creating the right lighting for your bedroom

Good lighting can have a significant effect, breaking or making a room's ambiance, so it pays to make sure it's right for you.

This is particularly important in the bedroom.
There's nothing worse than going to bed with lighting that sets you on edge. We all want to design a glow that flatters while having the wattage to see what we’re doing.
Here are two easily applied procedures to help you decide: mix light sources at various levels to give you choices, and determine what lighting is appropriate for what you will be doing in your bedroom space - dressing, applying make-up, reading.
Before you start to decorate your bedroom consider the lighting.
Where will the furniture be placed?
How will you avoid unsightly and dangerous trailing wires?
Is the room to be used just for sleeping or will it be used for other things, like dressing and making up?
Is it big enough for you to spend time in it doing other things during the day?

Every room should make a statement, so choose things that will draw attention to your favorite pieces of furniture - for example, your bed, your dressing table, that antique cheval mirror that rotates within its frame.

Lighting can also make your bedroom appear fresher, bigger, fresher and more chic, as well as adding value. Where bedside lights are insufficient you can silhouette objects or create another light source in a bedroom with up lighters.

Bedrooms are meant to be cosy spaces where you can retire from the stresses of the world. To create this sort of insular ambience situates reading lamps or sconces near the bed—but don't make the mistake of pointing the light directly at it.

Garage doors quite simply can add value to your home. When you think about it it's not as surprising as it may at first appear because when people drive by and see your garage and its doors they can create first impressions and generate curb appeal.

If your house was built from about 1930 onwards the chances are that it was designed for the motor age, for drive-in accessibility, and if your garage was constructed next to or as part of the house it is possible the garage doors account for up to 30% of your home’s front façade.

This is probably why upgrading garage doors has become such a popular project for people improving their homes. Indeed in cost-versus-value reports, the replacement of garage doors has been shown to increase the value of a home.

A Few Tips for Bathroom Furnishings
