How to Set Up Your Home with Tropical Décor

How to Set Up Your Home with Tropical Décor

Many homeowners today value décor as an important aspect of their homes. Home décor can go a long way in increasing the value of your property, while making it aesthetically pleasing at the same time. One of the most popular themes today is tropical décor, which places emphasis on minimalism and tropical style of life.

Tropical themes are popular as you can easily set up your home with the décor without having to break the bank. And what makes it even better is that you don’t need to revamp your current décor or theme completely. A few changes in lighting and furnishing will do enough to bring the tropical breeze to your retreat. Here are some easy ways through which you can go tropical with your home!

Lighting is the most important aspect of tropical décor. The whole idea of a tropical theme is to bring the outdoors, indoors. In other words, you want to make sure that your lighting scatters gently in your home. It should incorporate earthy tones and color schemes that tropical décor is known for. To do so, you must first move your furniture and other fixtures away from windows and walls. This will give your home the sundrenched look. As for lighting fixtures, you can easily purchase tropical themed overhead lamps, palm tree shaped chandeliers, and sea shell based sconces to give your home just the right look.

Tropical décor is not just about ‘going green’ with your home. To start with, get lightwood installed in the living rooms and bedrooms. This will give your home a cool look and that will work well with tropical plants like palm trees and bamboos. Alternatively, you can always install log frames on your walls for a tree house type of look. As for carpets, tropical décor requires natural rugs made from bamboo, sisal, and sea grass. However, if there is furnishing in your home that doesn’t go well with your new theme, you can always place natural fiber cloths on them to give your home the ultimate tropical look.

Colors and Motifs

The tropics are all about energy, elegance, and nature. Hence, colors and motifs that embody these aspects are ideal for any tropical themed home. For paint, go with earth tones or vibrant colors like green, yellow, and light blue. As for motifs, you can easily purchase natural shells, fossils, tropical art, and aquatic animal motifs. It is best to set up motifs in either the living room, or the bedrooms. However, if you are on a budget, just focus on painting your walls to compliment your décor.

Flooring is just as important as any other aspect of tropical décor, if not more. Ceramic tiles are great additions to kitchens and bathrooms and come in a variety of styles, shapes, and colors. For instance, you can install leaf patterned tiles in your kitchen with ocean patterned tiles in the bathrooms. Alternatively, you can install bamboo planks in both these areas for a rainforest themed look.
