Take a sigh of relief because the following tips will help you to furnish your deck. The use of a deck, how easy to maintain and its comfort depends on its furnishings. Before you buy the furnishings, know the purpose of the deck, your budget and the time you will dedicate to maintenance.
Have a layout plan
Have a plan on the layout of the furnishings on the deck preferably on a piece of paper for better visualization. The furniture you will have on the deck will depend on its size and position. Your layout will also depend on the use of the deck. If you intend to be entertaining many guests, you should include many chairs and if your deck is small, you may have to settle for smaller chairs. If the deck will include grilling, ensure the seats are not close to the grill since the position may not be comfortable for the occupant. By the time you are through with the planning, you will find out that you know the furnishings you need. This is in number of chairs and tables and other furniture that you may need.
Decide the material for the furnishings
Some of the materials used to make deck furniture are wood, metal, plastic and wicker. The materials used on the furniture will determine its durability, appearance and how it is maintained.

The wood needs to be cared for in order to last longer, though it wears away with time. It needs to be sanded and refinished every now and then to maintain its looks. The down side is that the wood may rot and be damaged by mold if it is constantly exposed to moisture.
• Metal
This is the preferred material for deck furnishings. It is durable and can withstand many elements of weather such as moisture, wind and changes in temperature. If the furniture is painted properly, it does not rust though it may need to be sanded and repainted occasionally. It's down side is that it may be hot during hot weather and cold in cold weather.
• Plastic
The material is cheap and can withstand the elements of weather such as moisture. It only needs to be wiped due to moisture with no other maintenance.
• Wicker
The material is suitable for dry climates and it decays overtime. It is not easy to maintain since it cannot be refinished like wood. To prevent cracking in dry climates, it needs regular spraying with water.
Decide on cushions
Cushions make furniture comfortable and improve on appearance. If you decide to use them, you may have to live with storing the cushions inside and removing them when needed because if you leave them outside, they will develop mildew. Remember to match your furnishings with the rest of the furnishings and landscaping in the home.
