Christmas time is a time for families to spend time, to feast, exchange gifts, and just overall embrace family and togetherness. Nothing sets the mood more than a nicely decorated house full of unique and inviting trinkets and mood setters that will ensure everyone that enters your home will immediately be filled with the holiday spirit. You don’t have to spend a ton of money to get a great, cohesive look, and you can certainly add your own flair to everything so that your decorations aren’t run-of-the-mill and typical. During this time of love and sometimes stress, treat yourself to beautiful, unique decorations that reflect who you are.
Wreaths
Wreaths are a great way to express your personality and they are also a cheap and fun craft that you can do by yourself within an hour or so, or the whole family can help out to make something that represents anyone. A wreath can be traditional or quirky, depending on the direction you want to go. You can adorn it with floral that match your existing decor, or you can make your own wreath monster with the center hole serving as the mouth. Really, the sky is the limit since the circle is such a common shape. Experiment and have fun.
Scent
A Christmas smell is unmistakable, and if your guests smell it as soon as they walk in the door, the will instantly feel welcome and comfortable. Christmas scents are full of spices and earthier smells, and a home air freshener can be made very easily so that your home will be full of the smell and spirit of Christmas. All you need are some cinnamon sticks, orange peels, and any other aromatic spice or fruit that tickles your fancy, such as cloves or lemon, and a pot of simmering water. Bring the water to a boil, then immediately turn the heat down to keep the mixture simmering. Your house will smell like Christmas all night and really set the mood.
Fancy Presents
Everyone know that it’s the thought that counts when giving gifts, so why not show that you put some thought into the wrapping of your loved one’s presents? Wrapping in plain brown paper with a nice ribbon and maybe an ornament that reflects the personality of the gift is a nice, classy looking touch, or perhaps stamping the paper with a Christmas motif or favorite character. This is something else that doesn’t have to be expensive, all you need to do is spend a little extra time to make the package look special and personal, and they will surely notice and appreciate it.
These three tips are just a few little things you can do to make your house feel home and full of holiday joy. People notice these extra steps and know that you are happy to be with them and welcome them into your home. If Christmas will be held at someone else house, the personal wrapping still makes a difference and let’s people now you were thinking of them.
