How to Clean the Pet’s Litter Box

Most people are fond of cats, be it adults or kids. They are calm, loving, and playful, just what you need after a rough day at work or when you want to engage your little ones, as you go about the house chores. However, this fondness is conditional and in particular, when it concerns taking care of the litter box. Even the diehard pet lovers, find it hard to take care of the litter box. Scooping the pet’s waste from the box, cannot be anybody’s cup of tea. Unlike all the other pets, you got in the house, cats are naturally intelligent and they know the basics of using the litter box. It is hard to find them peeing in any corner of the house as long as there is a noticeable box. All the same, once they are done with their usual release, somebody must help in cleaning the box. It can be labeled as the most fun activity; it is dirty and smelly. In most instances, the litter box is neglected, to attend to be other demanding house chores.

Nevertheless, a messy waste box can ruin the peace in the house. It will awaken everyone’s sense of smell, regardless of where the people are based in the house. Even if it only takes a few minutes to make this a success, most would prefer not to do it all. For the best results, ensure to scoop the litter box on daily basis and once per week, remove the bag and replace it with a new one. At least once per month, it is essential to clean and sanitize the litter box.  Start by removing the feces and place them in a garbage can. Make sure that there are no traces left on the sides of the box. Rinse the box with water and fill it with a half to an inch of undiluted white vinegar. Allow the solution to settle for 30 minutes and rinse with cold water. By doing this, you will have rendered the litter box healthy for the pet and prevent bugs from harboring in the box.

For the litter, which may escape from the box, when you are scooping out, be sure to sweep any residue and vacuum. Do note that the broom you use for the pet waste should not be used in the bedroom, kitchen, or dining room. This is because, pets’ litter carries with germs- carrying microorganisms. After you have swept all the particles of litter, use a handheld vacuum, to ensure the place around the box is kept clean. The floor around the box should be washed thoroughly once per week.  Use undiluted white vinegar for this task. Owing to its high acidity level, it helps to disinfect and kill germs, just as bleach and other commercial cleaning agents, will do. The beauty with vinegar is that is natural and will not cause any harm to the cat. As you can see, cleaning the litter box is not difficult and it is a necessity. Use the above tips to keep your pet’s litter box, healthy.
