Even though we love our pets and treat them like a member of our family, they can sometimes create unpleasant odors in your home. Whether it be your dog's bad breath or your cat's litter box, you will want to do something to get rid of the smell. When you have company over, the last impression you want to make is that your house always smelling of dog or cat. So here are a few tips to maintain the level of odor your pet's leave in your home.
1) It is important to keep up with your household chores. Stay on top of vacuuming and dusting on a regular basis. Mop and wash the fabrics in your home such as curtains and pillowcases. When you maintain a clean home, you will keep the odors at bay.
2) As it is important to keep your house clean, it is equally important to keep your pet clean. Give your pet regular baths and use a pleasant smelling shampoo. You can even make your own natural shampoo, so it is better on your pet's skin and coat. In addition to baths, brush your pet frequently. This will keep nasty odors off of your pet. If you pet is known for his/her smelly breath, then you should purchase a pet toothbrush and toothpaste and use them often.
3) Clean your pet's bedding and toys that are made out of fabric. Also clean their food and water bowls on a regular basis to prevent any gross smells growing in them. If you have cages or crates, make sure to vacuum and wipe them clean in a timely manner.
4) Understand that it is very important where you decide on placing your cat's litter box. Litter boxes are a huge source of foul odors from your pets. It is best to have a litter box that has a cover. If you don't purchase one, you can be creative and build your own small space to place the litter box inside. Have a small hole so your cat can enter and exit easily. This will keep the smells down to a minimum. Keep the litter box out of rooms in your house that are most unwelcome to foul smells, such as the living room, kitchen and bedrooms. It is better to choose a room like a bathroom or even the basement.
5) If you have trouble in getting rid of these unpleasant odors, you can utilize ways to mask them. Place lovely scented candles or air fresheners in different rooms of your house. When you vacuum, you can use a carpet freshener or baking soda to help ease the smell of pet odors. If you are expecting guests, you can spray the rooms with a scented spray.
