Best DIY Ways to Decorate Using Rugs

Rugs and carpets are known to bring in some glamor to our living spaces. Nevertheless, they do more than accentuating the room. First, they provide warmth to your feet, if your flooring is made of wood or tiles. To your little ones, they offer a safe spot for them to play. If anyone falls accidentally on the floor, the rugs minimize the impacts.  In addition, they are inexpensive and come in various sizes, shapes, designs and colors. With these benefits, you cannot afford to miss a rug in your home. However, where and how do you place them? Let us find out.

Tips on how to use area rugs

Use rugs to define areas. For instance, some rugs are suitable for the living room whereas others can do great in a dining area. While at it, ensure that the rugs vary in size that is if you decide to use more than one rug in a room. Otherwise, the same sized rugs give an illusion that the room is divided into two.  Another thing, ensure that the rugs used in a certain room, complement each other in style. If you have too many patterns in a room, they might eliminate the sense of harmony in the decor. Where you have a favorite rug, use it to determine the color theme of the room. However, when you buy the rug after you have bought the furniture, you can use it to blend in with the existing colors. It would also interest you to know that rugs can make a room appear quite or loud. If your wallpaper or upholstery features an ornate pattern, choose a subtle area rug. On the other hand, when the upholstery is plain, get a rug that will add interest to the room.

If you want your room to look awesome, never assume that all rugs should spot a rectangular shape.  Ideally, the arrangement of your furniture should dictate the shape of the area rug, which you can use.  It is DIY, so do not limit yourself to the traditional rectangular shapes, you can also choose oval, round or square area rugs depending on the space. As you apply rugs, it is important to leave some space around it to make the room look larger. For example, when you are selecting a rug for the whole room, always subtract 3 feet from the width and length of the room. In addition, while applying a rug under a dining table, let it to be more in size by at least 24 inches as compared to the size of the table. This will ensure that the table stays on the rug at all times.

Lastly, for rugs that are to be placed in areas of increased traffic, make sure they have dark colors and that they are durable enough to stand the pressure. For safety purposes, install rug liners on all your rugs to ensure that you do not slip over.  However, choose the liner in accordance to your floor. As you can see, you do not need an expert to apply the wall-to-wall carpet, which may force you to dig deeper into your pockets. With area rugs, you can bring out the best of every room in your home.
