Matching sofa chairs to the room

Matching sofa chairs to the room

You may be having mismatched furniture where the sofa chairs and the sofa do not match. However, matching the sofa chair to the rest of the furniture and to the décor does not mean exact matching. You can match the sofa chairs with the room by coordinating colors of the fabrics with those of other furnishings and of the décor. Below are ways in which you can match the furnishings.

If two sofa chairs are matching

If there are two matching sofa chairs in the room and you want to match them with the rest of the room, start by looking for similarities. This is in terms of colors or patterns on the chairs. For instance, if the chairs are in blue and white striped fabrics and the couch has solid beige color, place blue and white pillows on the couch. The pillows can have different stripes or patterns as long as the colors are similar to the chairs colors. Place a throw in blue and white stripes at the back of the couch. You may also have sofa cushions in blue and white striped fabric to match that of the chairs. For a sofa with removable cushions, cover only the middle cushion with the striped fabric. Improve the matching by placing a throw pillow in beige at the sofa chairs.

Sofa chairs that are not matched

If your room has sofa chairs that do not match, use color to tie them. If the chairs have similar colors but different patterns, you can use solid colored pillows in one of the colors and place them on the chairs. If the sofa chairs do not match completely, place a pillow on the chair that has color from the other chair to tie the chairs using colors. In addition, place pillows matching the sofa chair on the sofa in order to create cohesion.

Designing a couples bedroom

A couple’s bedroom can be challenging to design especially if the partners have extreme decorating preferences that are different. This means that the couple needs to compromise in order to design their bedroom. Both tastes can be incorporated and an intimate space created if color, materials and patterns are mixed creatively.

Choose the bed

The bed is the focal point of a bedroom, and it should be the first one in the room. If your design tastes are different, find a design that works for you. For instance, if one person favors a traditional style and the other likes a modern style, then look for a bed that is between these two styles. You could try a classic bed in sleek black finish. This way, each one partners needs will have been met.

Use neutral furniture and walls

Arguments on whether the room should have a dark masculine color or light feminine color can be settled by using neutral colors on the walls and on furniture. Use neutral shades such as cream, white, taupe and gray on the walls. The furniture should have neutral shades that are darker such as black or chocolate brown. If the two of you prefer a rustic look, use the natural wood finish on the furniture as the neutral color.

Choosing the right buffet cabinet

Choosing the right buffet cabinet

A buffet cabinet can serve many roles, but the main one is that of storing and serving food in the dining room. The cabinet also goes by the name sideboard and may be used to serve other purposes in the home. They come in different styles and materials, and you should therefore find the one that meets your needs and complements your décor. The tips below will guide you as you make the choice.

Consider the purpose

How you intend to use the cabinet should determine the type that you should buy. Do you want a cabinet for displaying your crystals and fine china while at the same time storing items such as silverware and linen? The cabinet to use should have glass doors at the top section and with cupboards and drawers at the bottom section.
If the buffet cabinet is for throwing casual parties where the food is laid out, and the guests help themselves, the cabinet should be long and low. A buffet cabinet for storage of items without the need to display them should have solid doors.

Where the cabinet will be located

The use of buffet cabinets should not be limited to the dining room. You can use the cabinet for storage in the hallway or a catchall surface in the foyer. Choose a cabinet with cupboards and drawers so that you can store items that are seasonal such as scarves, boots and hats. Your entrance can do with a long, low cabinet buffet with each season’s decorations. Include a bowl or a basket to hold the mail and keys. Your kitchen should also not be left out because a large low buffet can play the same role as the kitchen island with storage.

Ideas on How to Use a Desk in the Living Room

Ideas on How to Use a Desk in the Living Room

If you want your living room also to become your home office, you may be faced with a challenge of how to include a desk without disrupting order. You will need to find for it a place in the room where it is less disruptive. Make sure that the desk is placed out of sight on the happenings of the living room. The desk should not be highly noticeable when one is sitting at the couch or watching TV. If there is no other place to put the desk except where it is visible, try to block it using a freestanding wall unit or a bookshelf.

A room divider can give the desk the much-needed privacy from the prying eyes of other people in the living room. The divider separates the desk from the sitting area in the living room and provides privacy when working. Some of the dividers that you may use are a folding screen, curtains or a large piece of furniture. A folding screen can be placed when working and be removed when not needed to open up the room. Curtains can be hanged on the ceiling using a track in order to separate the desk from the other parts of the living room.

Other large furniture such as a cabinet or a bookcase can also act as a room divider. Place the desk behind the furniture so that it is blocked from the seating area. If you do not want guests to see the desk, a room divider is not enough because it only conceals the desk without hiding it. To hide it completely, use a closet, if your living room has one. This will enable you to hide the desk and other items from the guests, especially when you are entertaining. Just make sure that the closet is situated on a corner where it will be of fewer disturbances. You may include shelves in the closet where you will place other items such as office supplies.
