Using plastic stack drawers to decorate

Using plastic stack drawers to decorate

Stack of plastic drawers can be used for decorating as well as for storage purposes. Though they do not seem to be decorating items at first, they can be embellished and displayed creatively to adapt to any room. Their availability in different colors makes it easy to the ones suitable with your décor. Below are some tips to help you use the drawers in your décor.

Paint them for a better effect

If even after you choose bins that have the appropriate color for your décor you still find them dull, you can spruce them up with paint. Give the drawers a fresh paint makeover. Remember to use a plastic primer so that the paint can stick and it does not peel off. You can paint all the bins in the same color. For more than five drawers, you can paint each bin a different color to create a rainbow effect. You may also create a fade effect by choosing one color and adding a little white as you paint each bin.

Plastic drawers as a coffee table

The drawers can also be used as a coffee table. This is by stacking two or three drawers on each end to create a table legs or base. On the stacked drawers, place a tabletop of glass or using kitchen cabinet doors. The cabinet doors can be connected by gluing a thin board on their back with adhesive. A smaller table will need one stack of the drawers made up of two or three bins and a top that is small. You may use one cabinet door. Use drawers of the color that matches the décor and you may also paint them if necessary.

Arranging pillows on a twin bed to convert it into a day bed

Arranging pillows on a twin bed to convert it into a day bed

You can use pillows to transform a twin bed into a day bed with comfortable sitting area. All you need to do at night is to rearrange or remove the pillows to get an extra bed. You can also do the same transformation to the napping or the nursing area in the baby’s room. Below is a guide on how to do it.

Make two rows

Take rectangular and square cushions and arrange them in two rows along the bed and against the wall to create a sofa back. For the back row, use firm cushions and the front row softer cushions. This provides comfort and back support for the seating area. The rows also fill extra width that is on the bed for better sitting.
The patterns and colors of the prints should depend on the décor. For instance, back row can have solid colored cushions and front row to have print cushions. You may also use an arrangement using different colors for matching various room features.

Sofa pillows are accessories that are used to enhance and support the design style and therefore, can be referred to as room jewelry. To get a better outcome of the interior décor, you can match the pillows with the window treatments. The guide below will show you how to achieve the best match.

Identify the décor style

Identify the decorating style of the room so that you can know the sofa pillows to use. A room with traditional style décor will have old rugs, antiques and swags that are layered. A room that has leather furniture, with no accessories and with blinds could be a minimalist modern room. Contemporary style room will have overstuffed furniture, grommet-topped drapes and built in bookcases made from oak. When not sure of the decorating style, go through décor magazines and websites to find out.

Determine the color scheme

Determine the color scheme of the room to help you know which colors to use on the pillows. The main color takes up 60 percent, the secondary color takes 30 percent and the accent color takes 10 percent. The main color should be in accessories including the pillows. For easy identification of colors, use paint chips or color palette. This will help you to get the right colors.

Matching sofa chairs to the room

Matching sofa chairs to the room

You may be having mismatched furniture where the sofa chairs and the sofa do not match. However, matching the sofa chair to the rest of the furniture and to the décor does not mean exact matching. You can match the sofa chairs with the room by coordinating colors of the fabrics with those of other furnishings and of the décor. Below are ways in which you can match the furnishings.

If two sofa chairs are matching

If there are two matching sofa chairs in the room and you want to match them with the rest of the room, start by looking for similarities. This is in terms of colors or patterns on the chairs. For instance, if the chairs are in blue and white striped fabrics and the couch has solid beige color, place blue and white pillows on the couch. The pillows can have different stripes or patterns as long as the colors are similar to the chairs colors. Place a throw in blue and white stripes at the back of the couch. You may also have sofa cushions in blue and white striped fabric to match that of the chairs. For a sofa with removable cushions, cover only the middle cushion with the striped fabric. Improve the matching by placing a throw pillow in beige at the sofa chairs.

Sofa chairs that are not matched

If your room has sofa chairs that do not match, use color to tie them. If the chairs have similar colors but different patterns, you can use solid colored pillows in one of the colors and place them on the chairs. If the sofa chairs do not match completely, place a pillow on the chair that has color from the other chair to tie the chairs using colors. In addition, place pillows matching the sofa chair on the sofa in order to create cohesion.

Designing a couples bedroom

Designing a couples bedroom

A couple’s bedroom can be challenging to design especially if the partners have extreme decorating preferences that are different. This means that the couple needs to compromise in order to design their bedroom. Both tastes can be incorporated and an intimate space created if color, materials and patterns are mixed creatively.

Choose the bed

The bed is the focal point of a bedroom, and it should be the first one in the room. The couple should therefore choose a bed that fits their both tastes and then base the rest of decorations around it. The bed should inspire you on how to decorate the rest of the room. If your design tastes are different, find a design that works for you. For instance, if one person favors a traditional style and the other likes a modern style, then look for a bed that is between these two styles. You could try a classic bed in sleek black finish. This way, each one partners needs will have been met.

Use neutral furniture and walls

Arguments on whether the room should have a dark masculine color or light feminine color can be settled by using neutral colors on the walls and on furniture. Use neutral shades such as cream, white, taupe and gray on the walls. The furniture should have neutral shades that are darker such as black or chocolate brown. If the two of you prefer a rustic look, use the natural wood finish on the furniture as the neutral color.
